Helmet emblems are excellent for combining with business clothing that has the same logo or company name. It’s also a handy way to personalize helmets.

Thermopatch delivers high quality helmets emblems. They are printed on a carefully selected self-adhesive film with a special layer. This does not affect the safety standard of the helmet in any way, it is chlorine and plastic-free, which follows the 2005/84/EC Phthalate Directive. The emblems are always easy to remove without causing damage to the helmet.

Description

Helmet emblems are ideal to identify and to express your corporate identity on hard hats and safety helmets. The helmet emblems are digitally printed on a carefully selected matte white – or transparent adhesive film.

Application

Helmet Emblems are designed for marking of and application to hardhats and safety helmets.

Properties

  • Face film: PVC, polymeric, transparent
  • Thickness: ~ 80 μm
  • Adhesive: pressure sensitive polyacrylate square quantity: ~ 35 g/m²
  • Release liner: double sided PE coated paper

Limitations of use

To ensure suitability always test the application of helmet emblems under actual application – and end-use conditions, before starting production.
The following factors will adversely affect adhesion of a pressure-sensitive adhesive:

  • dusty, dirty, oily or oxidized surfaces
  • mould release agents on blow-moulded plastic surfaces
  • low surface energy substrates, such as: polyethylene, polypropylene

  • Adhesive strength (ASTM D903):
    • Applied on stainless steel:
      • immediately: ~ 12,5
      • N/25mm after 1 week: ~ 22
      • N/25mm

Dimensional stability

Applied onto aluminium max. -0,45% after 48 hours stored at 70 °C (158 °F) (25 x 25 cm).

Chemical resistance

In a 24 hours test, the applied film is resistant to most petroleum based oils, greases and aliphatic solvents, mild acids, alkaline and salts.

Light proofness

DIN 53 388 non-fade grade: 7-8 (wool-scale).

Combustibility

  • Classified to flame retardant standard DIN 4102 / B1
  • Classified to Euroclass flame retardant standard DIN EN 13501-1, B-s1, d0

Toy safety

Classified to the standard for toy safety DIN EN 71-3.

Temperature

  • Application temperature: min 5 °C (41 °F)
  • Service temperature range: -30 °C (-22 °F) up to +80 °C (176 °F)

Durability

Up to 7 years outdoors, with vertical exposure, in central European standard climatic conditions.

Shelf life

Best before 12 months.

Before application of helmet stickers

Make sure that the surface for application is free of grease and dust.

Heat seal instructions

N/A.

Handling and storage

Before application the films can be stored up to 2 years from date of production.
The printed emblems must be stored at room temperature (15-25 °C / 59-77 °F) and a relative humidity of the air of 50-60%.

Recommended restrictions apply

  • EN397:2012+A1:2012 is the standard to which most industrial safety helmets in Europe are conforming.
  • The standard requires a mandatory warning: ‘do not apply paints, solvents, adhesives or self-adhesive labels, except in accordance with instructions from the helmet manufacturer. This is intended to prevent uncontrolled use of paints, solvents, adhesives, or self-adhesives on safety helmets by the user. Most industrial safety helmets are made from thermoplastic materials. Adhesives are chemicals that are designed to interact with any surface to which they are applied to.
  • Check your local guidelines in your country before applying stickers to helmets. The standard does not require any testing related to the use of stickers.
